The Wethersfield Chamber of Commerce, with input from the Town of Wethersfield, Inc., also a Chamber Member, held its "Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner" at the Wethersfield Country Club.

A combined business and social event, the Awards Dinner recognizes and honors those special businesses and residents who have helped and do help to make Wethersfield a desirable place to conduct business and to live.

The Annual Meeting of the Chamber came first, with a waiving of the reading of last year's annual meeting minutes. A slate of Chamber nominees was presented for positions and designated terms on the Board of Directors. Without opposition the following were confirmed to those positions on the Board of Directors:

• Ms. Carla Unwin of Sterling Jewelers, Inc.
• Mr. Frank C. Frago, Frank Frago, CPA, at Century 21
• Ms. Kris Pace of Gourmet Gatherings Ascot Catering
• Mr. Douglas Shipman of the Wethersfield Historical Society

• President:  Ms. Jeanne Kelly of Capitol Region Federal Credit Union
• Vice-President:  Ms. Maureen Kennedy, of TD BankNorth
• Vice-President:  Mr. Kapil Tenaja, Subway & BagelZ Wethersfield
• Treasurer:  Mr. Timothy Tuell, Timothy Tuell, CPA,
• Secretary:  Dr.Ken Sokolowski, DPM, Wethersfield Podiatry/Foot Health Services

Taking the podium, Chamber President Jeanne Kelly, informed the room-filling crowd of 130+ diners that the Chamber would be awarding eight Wethersfield Chamber of Commerce scholarships (in the following week) at the WPS Awards Ceremony in amounts ranging from $150 to $300. Most of these successful scholarship winners had also completed this year's Chamber sponsored "Shadow Program" (a career exposure and mentoring opportunity).

President Kelly then opened the evening's awards ceremony with introductory remarks and invited the Mayor of Wethersfield, Andrew Adil, to do the same. The Town of Wethersfield and its divisions and agencies collaborated with the Wethersfield Chamber of Commerce to made the following awards:

• WCOC Business of the Year Award: Sterling Jewelers, Inc., by Don & Carla Unwin
• WCOC Member of the Year Award: Maureen Kennedy of TD BankNorth, Inc.
• Town Beautification Award: Shireen & Don Aforismo for "Silas Robbins House"
• Town Employee of Year Award: Jan Neumuth, Tax Assessor
• Town Volunteers Awards: Citizens Charlie Vianni & Donna Hemmann
• Town Public Safety Award / Police: Sergeant Donald Crabtree, WPD
• Town Public Safety Award / Fire: Maurice “Moe” Cattanio, WVFD
• Town Educator of Year Award: Hope Harris, Charles Wright School, WPS
